What is Hydrometer in Wine Making?
The wine making hydrometer is simply a tube made of glass with a weight on one end that is light and floats. It is used to read sugar levels and it is done by observing how high or low the weight floats in the juice. It allows the winemaker to determine the specific gravity (the relative “weight” of a liquid compared to plain water) of wine. A winemaker can monitor the progress of fermentation and make necessary adjustments, depending upon the readings acquired.
